“Climbing is pretty scary, but it’s just like skiing.
If you give up on a hold, you give up on the mountain. It’s like the mountain is your home. Because we live in Jackson Hole, everything you climb is your home.
Es como, mi casa es tu casa. Mi montaña es su montaña.”
My First Time Skiing
by Jonathan, age 9 at time of writing
When I asked I was happy the instructor if I could go first and he said, “yes you can.” Then I went. I could feel the powder hitting my face. I looked at my dad and he was so close to me then I cheered myself and then I was at the bottom of the hill. I yelled to my dad, “did you see that?!”
I asked the instructor if I could race my friend. “Do you want to race me?,” I said.“Do you or not?” He said yes. Then the instructor skied down to the bottom of the hill and they said,“On your mark…get set…GO!” I dashed straight to him.
“On your mark…get set…GO!” I dashed straight to him.
We were tied. Then I tucked and I was in the lead. Then I was so close to the instructor I reached out my hand and touched him. “I won!, ”I yelled out. Then I went to tell my friend nice job. He asked if I wanted to do another race, I said, “Sure, why not?”
I left with a smile on my face. Now I am on the ski team. I dedicate this story to Emily Coombs because she helped me to ski.
